Storyline:
Even the extreme poverty of his Madras, India, home in the 1910s cannot stifle Srinivasa Ramanujan's indomitable intellect. Eventually, the renowned British mathematician G.H. Hardy notices his brilliant mathematical ability and his unbridled confidence in both and extends an invitation for him to Trinity College in Cambridge to continue developing his calculations.
Ramanujan, who was forced to leave his young wife, Janaki, behind, finds himself in a place where his cultural values and his largely intuitive mathematical theories collide with the strict academic standards of his school and mentor as well as the prejudiced realities of a Britain entering World War One.
Facing this with a family back home determined to keep him from his wife and his own declining health, Ramanujan joins with Hardy in a mutual struggle that would define Ramanujan as one of India’s greatest modern scholars who broke more than one barrier in his worlds.
